Welcome to Downtown Bristol, where history comes to life on every corner! Incorporated on September 1, 1681, Bristol boasts a rich heritage that is reflected in its distinctive 24-block grid pattern. This layout, with 8 blocks along Hope Street and 4 blocks from Thames to Wood Streets, remains remarkably intact today, and creates the perfect backdrop for a stroll. The original streets intersect at perfect 90-degree angles, framing a picturesque public common where the town's first meeting house once stood.

 

Even as Bristol evolved, expanding with the addition of "small" streets, the integrity of this historic street plan was preserved.
